Relationships

Relationships

Human relationships are complex and sometimes puzzling.  Humans are a social species, and the quality of our relationships has profound implications for our well-being.  While healthy social relations are a vitally important source of meaning, joy, and sustenance, relationship challenges can be stressful, preoccupying or even overwhelming, often leading to chronic feelings of confusion, hurt, anger, resentment, hopelessness, or inadequacy, and sometimes contributing to depression, anxiety, and other health problems.

Are you noticing painful, recurring patterns in your relationships?  Seeking to better understand your own or a loved one’s behavior?  Navigating challenging family dynamics in our politically charged climate?  Or wishing you could improve communication with a partner, parent, adult child, sibling or friend?

If you feel like you’re in the dark about one or more of your relationships, or that you’re stuck in unhealthy patterns that you don’t understand, please contact me!  I have over 30 years of experience guiding individuals and couples through complicated relationship dynamics. Whether you are seeking a few focused sessions to give you the insight and clarity you need to move forward, or you would like to work with me in ongoing psychotherapy, you will find me to be a caring, inquiring presence who will help you understand the root of the problem and guide you toward healing and resolution.

In addition to helping individuals and couples understand and improve their relationships, I also enjoy working with other adult dyads such as an adult sibling pair, a parent and adult child, and even adults who would like to mend a friendship.  Particularly as we age, unresolved conflict with the significant people in our life stories can feel increasingly heavy or painful.  I understand the healing that is required for genuine acceptance, forgiveness, and reconnection to be possible, and will be glad to facilitate you and your loved one on your journey toward reconciliation.
